Harvey Nichols

Cocktails

Cocktails on the 5th Floor of Harvey Nichols.

This was my first visit to the Champagne bar on the 5th floor, and I was not disappointed.
For my first drink I chose the Marshmallow martini from their menu- they use homemade marshmallow infused Absolut vodka, and lemon juice creating a slightly sweet but sharp cocktail.

Chocolate Rum Cake

Chocolate Rum Cake

We threw my friend a surprise party and as I love any excuse to bake I thought I would make a cake. I knew there would be a lot of West Indian’s there so thought that rum would make an essential ingredient.

Yo Sushi

Yo Sushi

I love sushi, yet have never been to Yo Sushi before. I think the idea of paying per dish has put me off as I’m the kind of girl who likes to try everything. I found myself on the top floor of Harvey Nichols sampling the free alcohol before meeting some friends for cocktails in the bar, so I thought that I probably should have a bite to eat or I may embarrass myself.

Lavender Cupcakes

Lavender Cupcake

I love using ingredients fresh from the garden, or someone elses garden, and while sitting eating in my garden one day I smelt our lavender bush. I then decided that I had to try making lavender cakes. I’ve seen sugar with the lavender already mixed in with it, but it is often quite expensive, and probably not as nice as the fresh stuff.
I used a basic sponge recipe but when I added the sugar I also added a handful of lavender buds.

Yvonne’s Thai Cuisine

IMG_5613

This Thai restaurant is tucked away in the back of the Kings Arms pub in Waterloo. Extremely busy if going straight from work on a weekday so be sure to get there early. The pub and the restaurant are run separately, so you buy your drinks at the bar and take it to your table. The only down side to this place is you can’t pay on card for your food so make sure you bring cash. However you wont need very much cash as the food portions are very filling and very reasonably priced.

Broccoli and Mushroom Tart

Broccoli and Mushroom Tart

This dish is a slight alteration on the Goats Cheese and Tomato tart but along the same lines and with a very similar recipe.
It’s really very easy and quite healthy too.

Chocolate Cupcakes

Triple Chocolate Cupcakes

So when I’m ill and bored I like to bake.
And this weekend I’ve been stuck at home with a virus. So out came my baking things and I looked in my cupboards as to what I could use for my creation.
My favourite type of cooking is finding things in your cupboard/fridge and making something delicious with it.
I decided I needed something chocolate and I like cupcakes as you can have just one (or three) and not feel guilty as they are so bitesize. This is what I came up with.

Chocolate Fudge

chocolate fudge

Nom nom nom…..
This was my first ever attempt at making fudge- and I think it turned out very well. Took it into work and tried it out on them- they are my guinea pigs for food. It went down very well with most people coming back for seconds, which I took to be a positive sign!
