Family roast.
Head chef Hannah, sous chefs Naomi/Alicia.
As it should be on a Sunday afternoon we all got together and cooked a traditional English roast. Lovely roast chicken covered in strips of bacon, delicious roast parsnips, potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes and broccoli. And of course home-made gravy. It was truly amazing even if I do say so myself and I wish I had the time/inclination to make a roast every week.

Sweet Potato Tart
This is a similar recipe to a previous post- the Goats cheese and tomato tart. However this one is using sweet potato instead of regular potatoes. I’ve had a little bit of a thing lately for sweet potato- literally eating it all the time. Its great though as it counts as one of your 5 a day as well as being a carb.
So this recipe can be adapted to have any topping you like- for me that’s whatever is in my fridge and needs eating up. The tomato is a must though- provides a bit of moisture, and the cheese is to me essential just because I can’t live without cheese.
Emma’s Lemon Cake
A cake that went wrong but yet was still recovered!
Baked a birthday cake for my good friend Emma, but sadly it didn’t quite come out how I had hoped!
Stuck to the tin and then when I tried to get it out crumbled into a million pieces. Not wanting to be defeated I stuck it back together using Lemon Curd filling, and then lemon buttercream icing on top.
Took it to the pub and was greatly received by all! Considering how awful it looked during the making I have to say it looked quite nice once finished.
Valentines Shortbread Biscuits
So it’s that time of year again! I’m not really that into valentines day, but I do love any excuse to bake, in particular anything pink or heart-shaped. So my post this week is a Valentines themed bake, for those who want to bake for someone special, or just want to treat yourself to some home comforts.
Chinese New Year 2012
Chinese New Year in London is a fantastic atmosphere, the restaurants are buzzing, the streets are full of dragons and performers and so much street food. Lots of restaurants set up stalls on the streets to sell their wares to hungry passers by who don’t want to stand and que for a table.
This year I saw one restaurant giving out free prawn toast to those who were queing outside thier restaurant, which I think is a lovely jesture and great at keeping the customers wanting more.
These are just a few pictures I took this year of Chinatown during the festivities.
Brandy Snaps
For Christmas my parents bought me the Great British Bake off recipe book, which I love as not only do I love that programme but I find the recipes really easy to follow, and although adventourous, fairly acheivable.
This is my first recipe from the book, there shall be more to follow, in particular I am planning to try some of the technical bakes.
