While in Stockholm I visited a market where the only things they seemed to be selling were pumpkins and mushrooms. At least we know they are not flying in produce Africa and only selling what is in season.
Swedish Market
Rival Cafe
Last month I went to Stockholm in Sweden. Their food is well known for having odd combinations and a lot of fish (herring in particular) so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
We visited the Rival Cafe, part of the hotel and bar that is owned by Benny from Abba. This was the main reason we decided to visit. But on arrival we noticed that it wasn’t just tourists or people who were staying at the hotel in there. There was a large amount of Swedish locals eating and drinking their morning coffee.
Café Blom
Café Blom is situated in the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm. On one of the islands it houses both the modern art museum and the Architecture Museum- both worth a visit. While taking a break and moving from one museum to another we needed some sustenance to keep us interested and on our feet.
Courgette and Mushroom Quiche
My first attempt at a quiche- I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to try it. I was inspired after having been watching episodes of the British Bake Off and wanted to force myself to try recipes that I’ve never tried.
So I went in search of a good recipe and adapted it to my own tastes. And I have to say it turned out pretty well. Mary Berry would have been pleased as I didn’t have a soggy bottom!
Courgette Skewers
Courgettes are one of my favourite vegetables, but I don’t really do much with them apart from stir fry and just chucking them in with other ingredients. I was looking through one of my recipe books for inspiration and came across this one. It’s nice and easy but tastes good and looks pretty good too!
Tim’s Pumpkin Soup
Pumpkin Season is upon us, and squashes of all kinds are currently in our supermarkets and local green grocers.
So what do you do with all those left over pumpkins after Halloween? And the seeds and insides you had to scoop out to make your ghoulish face? My new housemate Tim makes a delicious pumpkin soup, and we christened our new flat by making this soup together.
Apple Crumble
My cousin gave me some hand-picked apples when I went to visit her last week- she had two large bins full of cooking apples picked from a friends orchard. I carried as many as I could on the train, and decided that I should make something with them. I love a crumble- a classic dish and so yummy.
Afternoon Tea at the British Museum
For several months now my friend Hilary and I have been meaning to go for tea at the British Museum. It was originally meant to be for my birthday in June but kept getting postponed. But finally we made it.
It’s such a beautiful setting, placed on top of the reading rooms under Norman Fosters roof which I love.
Courgette, Cheese and Tomato Muffins
Viet Hoa
I have been here a couple of times and it is a really lovely restaurant. Minimal in decoration and style but works very well. Even the toilet has been done well, hidden in with the wall on one side. We were sat on a table right next to it, and you didn’t get that feel of “oh no were sat next to the toilets”.
