A cake that went wrong but yet was still recovered!

Baked a birthday cake for my good friend Emma, but sadly it didn’t quite come out how I had hoped!
Stuck to the tin and then when I tried to get it out crumbled into a million pieces. Not wanting to be defeated I stuck it back together using Lemon Curd filling, and then lemon buttercream icing on top.
Took it to the pub and was greatly received by all! Considering how awful it looked during the making I have to say it looked quite nice once finished.

So it’s that time of year again! I’m not really that into valentines day, but I do love any excuse to bake, in particular anything pink or heart-shaped. So my post this week is a Valentines themed bake, for those who want to bake for someone special, or just want to treat yourself to some home comforts.

Chinese New Year in London is a fantastic atmosphere, the restaurants are buzzing, the streets are full of dragons and performers and so much street food. Lots of restaurants set up stalls on the streets to sell their wares to hungry passers by who don’t want to stand and que for a table.

This year I saw one restaurant giving out free prawn toast to those who were queing outside thier restaurant, which I think is a lovely jesture and great at keeping the customers wanting more.
These are just a few pictures I took this year of Chinatown during the festivities.

For Christmas my parents bought me the Great British Bake off recipe book, which I love as not only do I love that programme but I find the recipes really easy to follow, and although adventourous, fairly acheivable.
This is my first recipe from the book, there shall be more to follow, in particular I am planning to try some of the technical bakes.

My repertoire of canapés and savoury snacks is quite limited, as I seem to mainly be baking cakes and food relating to chocolate. So I wanted to try and bake a little more of a variety of foods and thought I would start with canapés. They often look very fancy, and hopefully, quite impressive. So I thought I would start off with something fairly simply, and I cheated slightly by using ready-made pastry, so if you wanted a little more of a challenge then make your own rather than shop bought.

I bought some blueberries with the intention of making blueberry muffins, however forgot about them for a week as they were hiding at the back of my fridge. Not then feeling in the mood for muffins but needing to use up this going over fruit, I decided to make some jam. It keeps forever and home made taste so much better than shop bought.

Kleiner Olymp is a restaurant situated in the Schnoor part of Bremen, the oldest part of the town, with narrow winding cobbled streets. In amongst the shops are cafes and restaurants, plenty to choose from, but I wanted something traditionally German, and this restaurant sells the Bremen specialities.

I never used to like mince pies (yes I’m strange I know), and now that I do like them I only really like home made ones. However the other day I tried some shop bought ones made with puff pastry and I liked them, so thought I would give it a go at making them myself and then hopefully I would really really like them!

I visited my friend in Bremen and visited the many market stalls that they have in Bremen around Christmas time. The German’s really do Christmas well. None of the tacky tinsel we have in England (I like tinsel, but sometimes it can get a bit much!).
They have lovely handmade tree decorations, various food stalls, carousel rides and lots of make shift bars. They had one Market in the town which had a Medieval theme- all the staff were dressed up in Medieval clothing.
They had so many food and Gluhwien stalls- I was in heaven! Obviously I had to sample them to see if they were any good- which they were. Had my favourite the currywurst, and plenty of Gluhwein.
