So it’s that time of year again! I’m not really that into valentines day, but I do love any excuse to bake, in particular anything pink or heart-shaped. So my post this week is a Valentines themed bake, for those who want to bake for someone special, or just want to treat yourself to some home comforts.
Ingredients
200g unsalted Butter
300g Plain Flour
100g Caster Sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
pinch of salt
Icing Sugar
Method
1. Mix together the butter and sugar until creamy, and continue to beat until the mixture looks light in colour and fluffy.
2. Sift the flour, ginger and salt into the bowl and work the ingredients together until thoroughly combined.
3. Preheat the oven to 170C/ 325F/ Gas 3.
4. Wrap the dough in cling film and leave to cool in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes or until firm.
5. Unwrap and roll out until approx 1cm thick. Using heart-shaped cutters cut out hearts from the mixture and place on a greased baking sheet.
6. Bake for about 20mins or until firm.
7. Take out and leave to cool.
8. Once cooled mix the icing sugar with a little water and food colouring and decorate to taste.
